18 inches height x 36'' width. Details on this oil painting of the "HBO DEADWOOD" film set at Melody Ranch (once owned by Gene Autry) - New Hall, CA.
This oil painting is of an actual moment in time during the first shooting season of the HBO cable series "DEADWOOD". The individual at the lower left of the painting is retired California Highway Patrolman "Kenneth Hoyle" whom wished to work in a western. The next individual to the right on the sorrel horse is "Jason Walker" a wrangler for the series. He is on a movie set horse named "Shorty". The individual in the wagon seat is a long time motion picture professional wrangler by the name of "Phil Cowlings", and will drive the team of mules by the names of "Susie" and "Bell". An X shaped support in front of the mules is placed under the wagon tongue between film shots and takes the weight off the neck collars. The individuals and animals in this oil painting are waiting in the street while the actors inside rehearse their business and dialogue. On the "background" que the people, animals and wagon will pass by the open saloon doors as outside atmosphere elements while the actors perform their lines inside the DEADWOOD Bella Union Saloon. Crew members can change a lot and I was not able to get the names of the electricians in charge of the 10K (10 thousand watt) light which at times takes the place of the sun shining in a window. -Joe Dawson

I call this horse "BLUE" a captured wild horse from the WILD HORSE PROGRAM. He came from the Sandwash Herd in northwestern Colorado, and turned out to be a real gentle horse but strong and smart. Horses from this wild Sandwash herd can be sometimes be 15 hands or more in height.
